We are currently seeking to recruit an experienced SHQ Associate Director with a strong track record in delivering H&S consultancy/Principal Designer/CDM advisory across a broad range of projects and programmes in Birmingham. You will be responsible for delivering SHQ consultancy services to existing and new clients, contributing to the income generation activities of the business unit. You will have a good track record in contributing to business development, be able to work on your own initiative and be comfortable working in, as well as leading teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing competent advice, guidance, and support on various construction & design health and safety matters to colleagues and clients.
  • Ensuring exemplary standards of the Principal Designer role on experience-capable sites, coordinating design team meetings, assisting clients in developing H&S arrangements/Project Briefs, and conducting workshops/seminars on client duties.
  • Advising clients on CDM Regulations and relevant H&S requirements for construction projects.
  • Conducting site inspections across various health and safety aspects, assessing performance, and identifying compliance actions.
  • Auditing client supply chains to ensure compliance with Principal Contractor and/or Principal Designer duties.
  • Auditing client management systems to ensure adherence to CDM 2015 and effective design and construction management processes.
  • Developing and nurturing industry relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Delivering health and safety training sessions to clients, project teams, and internal audiences.
  • Conducting H&S audits of client and supply chain safety management systems, including evidence of successful implementation.
  • Assisting in developing further H&S or CDM opportunities through technical articles, speaking engagements, and bid support.

Qualifications

  • A degree or Masters in H&S, Environmental or Engineering environment.
  • Holds or is working towards Chartered Member of the Institute of Safety & Health (CMIOSH).
  • Multi-sector construction experience.
  • Relevant construction industry safety, quality or technical membership e.g. APS, IOB, CQI.
  • Excellent programme and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in partnership with clients (and/or stakeholders), continually delivering high levels of satisfaction, providing effective solutions and resolving issues.
  • Have a strong commercial awareness and be able to identify and pursue business opportunities.
