What are we looking for? There are 7 soft skills which are vital for the role of a Trustee in a schools Trust:

  • Confident – Of an independent mind, able to lead and contribute to courageous conversations, to express opinions, and to play an active role on the board.
  • Curious – Possessing an enquiring mind and an analytical approach, understanding the value of meaningful questioning.
  • Challenging – Providing appropriate challenge to the status quo, not taking information or data at face value, and always driving for improvement.
  • Collaborative – Prepared to listen to and work in partnership with others, understanding the importance of building strong relationships within the board and with staff, parents, pupils, the community, and employers.
  • Critical – Understanding the value of critical friendship, enabling both challenge and support, and pursuing learning and development to improve effectiveness.
  • Creative – Able to challenge conventional wisdom, be open-minded about new approaches, and recognize the value of innovation and creative thinking.

We are looking for individuals with at least three years of experience in governance and/or data analysis. Volunteers with some time available during the working day are especially encouraged to apply.

What will you be doing? Our collaborative educational Trust serves a vibrant rural community and is committed to providing the best learning experiences for pupils in our schools: Dobwalls, Landulph, Trewidland Primary, and Liskeard, Looe, Saltash Secondary. We have approximately 3,000 students, 450 staff, and a budget of Β£17m. We seek to appoint additional Trustees to join the Board. While some experience is advantageous, enthusiasm for creating a safe and inspiring environment for our children is most important.

Trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the Trust's administration. Their core governance functions include:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction
  • Holding the Executive Team to account for the educational performance of the Trust’s schools
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the Trust and ensuring responsible financial management
