Functional Consultant in Kirkham

Smart IT is a UK-based Odoo Gold Partner, delivering ERP implementations across a broad range of clients and project scales. Full Odoo training will be provided.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in and progressively lead client discovery sessions and requirements workshops, on-site and remotely.
• Produce clear business analysis documentation, process maps, and requirements specifications.
• Build strong working relationships with clients throughout the project lifecycle.
• Attend client update meetings and contribute to structured progress reporting.
• Learn and apply Odoo module configuration across relevant functional areas (Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Accounting, CRM, and others).
• Contribute to functional and technical design documentation under guidance from senior team members.
• Work with the Development team to understand and communicate customisation requirements.
• Ensure proposed solutions are practical and aligned with client needs.
• Manage your project tasks and time effectively across concurrent workstreams.
• Coordinate with Project Managers to flag risks, track progress, and manage client expectations.
• Support UAT phases, working closely with the QA team on testing activities.
• Assist with data migration activities including review, mapping, and import of legacy data.
• Deliver end-user training sessions as your Odoo knowledge develops.
• Produce user documentation and training materials to a professional standard.
• Contribute to Smart IT Academy content as required.
• Work collaboratively with Functional Consultants, Developers, and Project Managers.
• Share knowledge and contribute to team learning.
• Engage with internal process improvement and quality initiatives.
• Provide functional support for client issues raised through the helpdesk.
• Work with the Account Management team to maintain positive client relationships.

Required Experience & Skills

• Some experience using or working alongside business software — this could be CRM, accountancy packages, stock management, job management, or similar.
• A good understanding of how businesses operate — ideally gained through a role in operations, administration, finance, sales, or a related function.
• Strong communication skills — comfortable talking to people at all levels, both in writing and in person.
• Organised and methodical — able to follow a process, document clearly, and manage your own time.
• Curious and analytical — someone who likes understanding how things work and finding better ways to do them.
• A genuine interest in technology and how it can help businesses improve.
• Experience using a recognised business software platform such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Zoho, or similar tools used in finance, sales, or operations.
• Previous exposure to a client-facing or customer service role.
• Experience writing process documentation, user guides, or training materials.
• Background in a sector relevant to ERP — such as manufacturing, distribution, retail, or professional services.
• Any exposure to project-based work or structured delivery environments.
