We’re hiring: Gas Trainer for Smart Energy Training.
Location: Ashbourne, Nottingham or Lutterworth (3 vacancies)
Salary: Up to £44,000 + bonus (dependent on experience & qualifications)
About you
Are you an experienced gas engineer ready to pass on your knowledge and inspire the next generation of tradespeople? At Smart Energy Training, we deliver high-quality training and apprenticeships across plumbing, gas, electrical, and renewable sectors – and we’re growing. We’re looking for knowledgeable and enthusiastic Gas Trainers to join our expert team across our Ashbourne, Nottingham, and Lutterworth training centres. Whether you’re already a trainer or a skilled gas engineer looking to step away from the tools and into education, we’ll support you to transition into a training career and develop your teaching skills.
What you’ll be doing:
- Deliver engaging, high-quality training to gas apprentices and learners
- Plan and deliver structured lessons aligned with qualification standards
- Support learners through practical workshop sessions and classroom learning
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to help learners succeed
- Assess learner progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation
- Work closely with employers and internal teams to support learner progress
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Keep up to date with industry developments and gas safety standards
What we’re looking for:
- Strong industry experience in gas engineering and heating systems
- A passion for developing and supporting the next generation of engineers
- Confident communication and presentation skills
- A supportive, patient, and learner-focused approach
- Renewable energy experience (e.g. heat pumps, solar thermal, low-carbon technologies)
- Plumbing qualifications or broader smart energy experience
- Teaching and/or assessing qualifications (AET, DET, PGCE, TAQA or equivalent) – training can be provided
Salary and benefits:
- Salary up to £44,000 plus performance bonus
- 37.5 hours per week (typically Monday to Friday)
