At Smart Energy GB, we aim to engage and communicate with our diverse nation about the smart meter rollout across England, Scotland, and Wales. We are an independent organisation set up by the government to deliver the national public engagement campaign, raise awareness of smart meters and drive adoption of this technology in everyone\’s homes. Smart meters are essential building blocks in the creation of a cleaner, greener energy system for the future.
Overview
We are looking for a Marketing Strategist with around 10 years experience working in strategic marketing functions in commercial and/or public sector/not-for-profit sectors, and ideally some behaviour change experience, to join our team in our London office on a 3-month fixed-term contract. The role will involve developing robust marketing strategy for consumer engagement and bringing plans and propositions to market with appropriate insight, budget and measurement in place.
Responsibilities
- Leading key marketing workstreams to advance the uptake of smart meters and energy flexible tariffs where there is a key audience opportunity or barrier.
- Stakeholder engagement across and outside the organisation, supporting proposition development, audience strategy, messaging and media, and ensuring brand consistency in how the campaign is brought to life.
- Translating government/commercial policy and targets into meaningful objectives for consumer engagement.
- Supporting the marketing team (in partnership with the Insight & Analytics team) to model customer journeys, forecast adoption, and measure marketing activity, identifying consumer insights at each stage of the funnel.
- Creating communications architecture to support messaging grids and clear briefs.
- Preparation and briefing of creative and media agencies to develop media plans and campaign materials.
- Developing and codifying significant outputs for stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure key data is utilised to best effect and that plans meet their needs.
Skills, experience and competencies
- Around 10 years in strategic marketing functions in commercial and/or public sector/not-for-profit sectors. Ideally some behaviour change experience.
- Proven track record in building and maintaining best-in-class consumer engagement.
- Natural problem solver and critical thinker, capable of spotting opportunities in complex challenges.
- Experience in developing multi-audience, multi-message marketing; translating consumer, category and cultural trends into meaningful insights to inform strategic recommendations.
- Effective stakeholder management, including comprehensive written materials, with ability to bring people together, communicate confidently, and turn ideas into persuasive and empathetic actions.
- Strong practical and pragmatic instincts balanced with a drive to deliver high-quality strategic and creative output.
