The Smart Energy Code Company (SECCo) is looking for a Strategy & Communications Analyst to strengthen our strategic capability and support high-quality engagement with SEC Parties, Government, Ofgem and the wider smart metering ecosystem.
Smart Metering sits as a key enabler of a netâzero energy system and there has never been a more important time for ensuring that smart meters and the supporting Smart Energy Code (SEC) arrangements are fit for the future. The parties to the SEC are at the forefront of developments that will allow energy consumers to make better use of their energy and reduce their energy bills, whilst ensuring more efficient use of the energy system and assets. At the heart of decarbonising the UK economy, the energy sector is an exciting place to be! SECCo is arguably one of the most important bodies in ensuring we achieve the UK's lowâcarbon goals.
This role sits at the heart of that evolution, providing the analytical and narrative foundations that underpin SECCo's corporate communications, strategy, Party engagement and organisational planning. This role is critical in establishing SECCo as a leading voice on a range of industryâwide strategic initiatives, ensuring coherent and relevant communications across all channels. The role will allow you to apply your experience and vision to shape and contribute to complex industry changes.
- Strategic insight & analysis
- Monitor and help analyse developments across Government, Ofgem, DCC, industry codes and key programmes summarising implications for SECCo and SEC Parties.
- Synthesize complex regulatory, policy and technical information into clear internal briefs and external communications.
- Contribute to horizon scanning and longâterm strategy work (e.g. strategic themes, business planning, user needs insights, risk/opportunity assessment), supporting Code and Regulatory Strategy team.
- Support the production of evidenceâbased narratives for reports, consultations, and Board/Panel papers.
- Draft, edit and prepare highâquality content across all channels: newsletters, announcements, website material, blogs, infographics, briefings and presentations.
- Support the Communications & Corporate Affairs Manager in shaping corporate messaging and ensuring consistency across SECCo's brand, tone and strategic objectives.
- Translate technical and regulatory topics into clear, accessible content suitable for different Party categories (Small Suppliers, Large Suppliers, Networks, Other Users) and Party personas.
- Maintain and update content on SECCo's website and digital platforms, when required.
- Help plan and produce materials for SEC Engagement Days, workshops, webinars, engagement calls and industry events.
- Support the development of targeted engagement content tailored to the needs of different SEC Party groups (as identified through persona mapping).
- Assist with stakeholder mapping, tracking priority issues and coordinating timely, relevant updates.
- Use analytics and feedback tools to assess engagement performance and identify opportunities to improve clarity, reach and relevance.
- Support the development of a structured approach to insightâgathering across Parties, including surveys and qualitative feedback.
- Maintain content libraries, document repositories and version control in line with SECCo's brand and governance standards.
- Work across the teams and service providers to ensure that communications reflect accurate, upâtoâdate information.
- Provide analytical and communications support for crossâindustry initiatives, regulatory reforms discussions and strategic regulatory engagement.
- Contribute to internal coordination processes that ensure SECCo's outputs are consistent, timely and aligned with organisational priorities.
The successful candidate will have:
- Essential skills and experience
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical, regulatory or policy topics and explain them clearly.
- Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to produce accurate, engaging and concise content for multiple audiences.
- Experience in communications, policy analysis, regulatory affairs, stakeholder engagement or a related discipline (typically 2â4 years).
- Awareness of the GB energy sector, smart metering, energy policy or regulated environments or the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and coordinate input from multiple teams.
- High attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
- Proficiency with digital tools, CMS platforms and Microsoft applications.
- Familiarity with energy codes, regulatory processes or smart metering arrangements.
- Experience using data or qualitative insights to inform messaging or strategic recommendations.
- Exposure to crossâindustry stakeholder engagement, government affairs or strategic projects.
- Comfortable preparing narrative content for senior audiences (Board, Panel, Government or industry) and/or the ability to learn quickly.
- Demonstrates curiosity and proactivity in investigating developments in the energy sector.
- Takes ownership of analysis and content production.
- Able to bring clarity to complex subjects and maintain high standards under time pressure.
- Collaborative, openâminded and comfortable working with diverse stakeholders.
- A strong commitment to value for money, transparency and quality â consistent with SECCo's operating principles.
