Smart Education is currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 and pastoral basis within a specialist SEMH setting in Birmingham. This role is ideal for someone experienced in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Job Requirements

  • Experience working with challenging behaviour in a school environment
  • Experience providing 1:1 or pastoral support
  • English and Maths GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above or equivalent)
  • Teaching Assistant or Counselling qualification (essential)
  • Confident using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
  • Resilient, patient and able to build strong relationships with pupils
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service
  • Valid passport
  • Ability to provide 24 months of employer or academic references

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with SEMH and complex needs
  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour management and engagement in learning
  • Assist pupils during lessons, pastoral sessions and social times
  • Implement individual behaviour and support strategies
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff
  • Maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment
