Role

We’re looking for an experienced, highly skilled Senior Commercial Manager to be accountable for the creation and maintenance of the commercial pipeline, which is core to the entire commercial function to guide resource planning, prioritisation and escalation. The Senior Commercial Manager will lead the cross functional alignment and reporting of the pipeline, ensuring the timely delivery of pipeline initiatives in line with DCC’s strategic goal. It is also expected the Senior Commercial Manager will lead all continuous improvement initiatives regarding the commercial pipeline process, artefacts and tools and collaborate with other business functions.

What will you be doing?

  1. Accountable for the ongoing development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Commercial Pipeline, interlocked with the wider business planning process, to ensure the timely development of commercial strategies for the 250+ activities listed and a £5bn contract portfolio.
  2. Lead and facilitate cross-functional teams to identify, plan and input critical business information onto the Commercial Pipeline which enables the business to make key decisions in a timely manner whilst ensuring value for money is evidenced in everything we do.
  3. Accountable for the notification and escalation of critical business milestones and deadlines, such as contract expiration and board paper deadlines, to the relevant ExCo member to ensure timely decision making and promote optimal business outcomes.
  4. Responsible for the weekly/monthly reporting of the Commercial Pipeline to OpCo and ExCo.
  5. Ensuring key SME resources are assigned to support the development of commercial strategies where appropriate.
  6. Own the Commercial relationship with key stakeholders, including senior executives, regulatory bodies, and external partners in relation to the Commercial Pipeline, to ensure alignment of key activities, priorities and raise awareness of any issues or risks as they arise.
  7. Accountable for continuous improvement and innovation of the Commercial Pipeline.
  8. Maintain the library of processes, guidelines and training materials related to commercial pipeline, ensuring all feedback is acted upon to ensure we get it right first time.
  9. Lead and develop a small team of commercial managers to drive the continual improvement and development of the Commercial Pipeline, supporting the business to make better, more informed decisions.
  10. Drive commercial internal planning capability in resourcing and budget planning, through the creation of weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting. Ensure the commercial team provides the right resources to support the business.
  11. People management: act as a direct report to commercial managers to ensure growth and development and maximise the role of Commercial Operations and Planning.

What are we looking for?

Technical

  1. Experience and advanced understanding of commercial process and interferences across the business units, including procurement, contract management, strategic supply management and planning.
  2. Extensive experience in developing and managing strategically important documents and processes, and drawing insight that can be presented at both ExCo and board level.
  3. Strong collaboration skills to enable the collation of key information from multiple sources across different levels of seniority.
  4. Ability to build a succinct story from multiple inputs that is easy to understand and allows key decisions to be made.
  5. Track record of engaging with other functions to identify how we can drive more value for our customers.
  6. Able to prioritise work, meet deadlines and targets.
  7. Ability to create and present reports to senior stakeholders.
  8. Project management skills and track record of delivering commercial projects.
  9. Strong attention to detail and proven ability to work in an open/auditable way fitting to a regulated environment.

Interpersonal

  1. Extensive written and verbal communication. Able to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
  2. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  3. Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders in a complex environment.
  4. Ability to work proactively in an open and ambiguous environment.
