You consider yourself an Engineer, but your real skill is learning — you quickly and enthusiastically pick up new technologies, libraries, tools, techniques, and domain knowledge to deliver the right solution. You understand principles of good code structure and write clean, maintainable code, and you can spot and fix technical debt in the classes and methods you touch. You understand and implement an appropriate level of automated testing for your work, and you're aware of the security and performance considerations typical of the areas you work in. You're comfortable discussing requirements with the product management team, throwing your own ideas into the mix and constructively engaging to iterate on requirements. You like working in an Agile environment and taking responsibility for getting things done as part of a team. You’re curious about emerging technologies and interested in using AI to augment your workflow, accelerate development, and explore better ways to build user experiences. You have solid experience with Python, along with front-end skills across HTML, CSS and JavaScript (or a modern framework such as React). You understand principles of good code structure and write clean, maintainable code, and you can spot and fix technical debt in the classes and methods you touch. You understand and implement an appropriate level of automated testing for your work, and you're aware of the security and performance considerations typical of the areas you work in. You're comfortable discussing requirements with the product management team, throwing your own ideas into the mix and constructively engaging to iterate on requirements. The responsibilities of the role include: Design, build and maintain features across the Workspace product, both front-end and back-end Create and maintain appropriate automated tests alongside all product changes Take shared responsibility for the output of your team Participate in the agile process including stand-ups, planning, demos and retrospectives Contribute to institutional knowledge by documenting solutions and standard approaches in the team wiki and knowledgebase What we're looking for: Must have skills/experience: Python Front-end development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or a modern framework such as React) Unit testing experience (Playwright) Teamwork Fast learner Advantageous skills/experience: Java TypeScript (React) Relational / Vector / NoSQL Databases AWS (S3, lambda) Modern AI development patterns ( agents, harnesses, skills, tool calling, and frameworks) Docker / Kubernetes Agile / Scrum Git We look for the following SMART values in everyone we hire at Smart Communications: S peak Openly - We are positive, creative, helpful, kind and we have fun.
