Smart City Recruiters are working in partnership with a leading affordable housing developer who, due to continued growth, are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join their established and successful pre-construction team. The role will report to the Commercial Manager and Regional Director.
Our client works closely with Housing Associations and Local Authorities to secure land, achieve planning, and deliver high-quality new-build affordable housing schemes across the UK. Their portfolio includes general needs housing, older persons accommodation, and supported housing projects. They are recognised as one of the fastest-growing affordable housing developers in the region.
About the Role
As Senior Estimator, you will take ownership of the end-to-end tender process, ensuring all bids are commercially robust, accurately priced, and delivered in line with agreed deadlines and company standards. This is a permanent, office-based role with travel across the Midlands and Northwest as required. The position offers strong long-term career progression within a growing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of detailed tender submissions, budgets, and cost plans
- Management and control of the tender process from initial enquiry through to post-tender stage
- Attending and leading mid-tender and post-tender meetings
- Post-tender analysis and value engineering where required
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients
- Liaising with sub-contractors and suppliers, utilising existing supply chains and developing new relationships
- Ensuring all tenders are commercially viable and aligned with business objectives
- Maintaining quality and compliance in line with company QA procedures
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in a Senior Estimator role within Affordable Housing
- Strong technical knowledge across all aspects of affordable housing construction
- Excellent commercial awareness and financial acumen
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong leadership qualities, leading by example within the pre-construction team
- Extensive knowledge of supply chains and sub-contractors
- Proficient in estimation software and electronic tendering platforms
- Well-organised, thorough, and able to manage competing deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused approach
