Recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist contractor, Smart City Recruiters Ltd are partnering with a long-established specialist contractor to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their commercial team. This organisation delivers complex groundworks and reinforced concrete structures across both building and civil engineering sectors, supported by a strong pipeline of secured work and long-term frameworks.

The Opportunity
This position offers the chance to work on major packages ranging from £5m to £30m+, contributing to the contractor’s continued expansion and reputation as a trusted specialist. Key Responsibilities
- Preparing accurate, competitive tenders from drawings, specifications, and client documentation
- Building detailed rates from first principles for Bills of Quantities
- Completing precise measurement and take-offs from construction drawings
- Leading target price reviews, tender analysis, and internal sign-off processes
- Working closely with senior management to incorporate strategic, commercial, and delivery-focused input
- Engaging suppliers and subcontractors to secure firm, competitive quotations
- Managing multiple tenders concurrently at various stages of development
- Requesting, tracking, and managing additional information from clients and design teams
- Attending pre- and post-contract meetings to support bid clarification and mobilisation
- Handing over successful tenders to construction delivery teams with clear commercial insight
- Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, and value-engineering solutions to strengthen bid competitiveness
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in groundworks and/or reinforced concrete structures
- Proven success converting tenders on projects up to £30m
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and technical constraints
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced commercial environment
- High levels of accuracy, commercial awareness, and analytical capability
