We are looking for an experienced Lead Assessor with a Construction Plant Operative background to join our team delivering high-quality Apprenticeship Assessments across the Smart Awards EPA portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced plant operator, trainer or assessor to step into a lead assessor role supporting the development of industry assessors while maintaining exceptional assessment standards.
About the Role
As Lead Assessor, you will model first‑class assessment and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) practice, managing a caseload of apprentices within your specialism while supporting the growth of a national network of external assessors. You will conduct Apprenticeship Assessments in a safe, professional and consistent manner, ensuring learners are fully competent, and that assessment delivery exceeds customer expectations. You will also provide support and guidance to assessors, helping maintain rigorous, compliant, and high‑quality assessment practice. Please note: This role requires extensive UK travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Apprenticeship Assessments across the Smart Awards EPA portfolio
- Manage an agreed caseload of apprentices
- Ensure assessment environments meet the highest professional standards
- Support and mentor external assessors and associate assessors
- Model best practice in assessment and IQA processes
- Contribute to the development of assessment materials
- Maintain compliance with awarding organisation and EPA requirements
Essential Experience
You must have operational experience in construction plant including:
- Forklift – 1 year
- Ride‑on Roller – 1 year
- 360 Excavator – 2 years
- Dumper / Dump Truck – 1 year
Experience within the construction, telecoms or utilities sectors is highly desirable.
Qualifications
- Assessor qualification (A1, D32/D33, CAVA or equivalent) or working towards IQA qualification (or working towards) desirable
- Valid CSCS Card – Operator, Trainer, Tester or Instructor level
