A hyperscale data centre campus comprising two large data centre buildings (c.20m high, with rooftop plant to c.25m) on an 8.7-hectare site on the edge of Dunstable. The scheme includes a dedicated electrical substation compound, standby generator installation, cooling and mechanical plant, a security building and perimeter security systems, internal roads and logistics access, c.100 parking spaces, and landscaping/drainage/biodiversity works. The end user is believed to be AWS (unconfirmed); the applicant/developer is Colliers Properties LLC, with Arup as engineering consultant.

Purpose of the Role

The Assistant Contracts Surveyor will support the commercial team in the day-to-day administration and cost management of the Houghton Regis data centre campus. This is a developing role suited to a graduate or early-career surveyor looking to build experience on a major mission-critical construction project, working under the supervision of the Contract Surveyor and Senior Contract Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the collation and input of cost data into project cost reports and trackers.
  • Support the preparation of interim valuations and subcontractor payment applications.
  • Help maintain up-to-date commercial records, including variation and change registers.
  • Assist with take-offs and measurement of works from drawings and site records under supervision.
  • Support the procurement team with administrative tasks during tendering, such as issuing enquiries and logging returns.
  • Attend site to observe and record progress, supporting more senior surveyors with verification of works completed.
  • File and organise commercial and contractual documentation in line with project protocols.
  • Attend commercial meetings to take notes and follow up on actions.
  • Undertake day-release study or professional development activities where applicable, working towards RICS accreditation.

Experience & Technical Knowledge

  • 0-2 years' experience in quantity surveying or a commercial construction role (placement/internship experience considered).
  • Exposure to construction cost management, measurement or subcontract administration is advantageous but not essential.
  • An interest in mission-critical, data centre or large industrial construction projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or working towards a degree) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related built-environment discipline, ideally RICS-accredited.
  • Willingness to work towards MRICS / APC in due course.

  • Keen to learn, with a proactive and conscientious approach.
