Permanent Opportunity | Civil Engineering | Major Highways Project

About the Role:

Our client, a leading civil engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Structures Site Agent to lead on a major highway's development project in the South of England. This is a hands-on, influential role where you'll manage site engineers, drive construction delivery, and report directly to the Project Manager.

You’ll own the full site management remit: resource planning, programme control, subcontractor management, quality assurance, H&S compliance, and stakeholder communication. The role offers genuine variety and the chance to shape how this project runs day-to-day.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage and mentor Site Engineers and Section Engineers
  • Support the Project Manager in driving construction phase delivery
  • Plan, resource, and control the construction programme alongside the PM
  • Manage subcontractors and monitor contractual compliance
  • Oversee Quality and Environmental plans; ensure work meets spec
  • Compile daily briefings, site records, and activity reports
  • Facilitate weekly/monthly site meetings and lead Safety Culture
  • Work across planning, commercial, and site teams to keep the project on track

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Site Agent or similar site leadership role
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal
  • HNC or degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent technical background)
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Technically competent and hands-on troubleshooter
  • SMSTS and First Aid at Work certified
  • CDM and H&S legislation awareness

Desirable Skills:

  • Highway or major infrastructure scheme experience
  • Site or section management experience within a wider team
  • Strong planning and scheduling skills
  • CPCS Appointed Person for Lifting certification
  • Temporary Works Coordinator training
  • AutoCAD proficiency
