Civils Sub Agent (Contract)

About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading construction contractor with a long-standing presence on a major UK transport hub, delivering complex infrastructure projects to high standards of quality, safety and environmental performance. Working under a long-term framework, they deliver design and build projects across both airside and landside areas, including pavement rehabilitation, critical utilities replacement and the redevelopment of operational areas. The programme is ongoing, with further major resurfacing works in planning. Work is carefully planned around critical live assets, with close engagement across a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow company procedures, including method statements, risk assessments and briefings, setting a strong example on health, safety, quality and environmental standards
  • Support the Agent with cost management and programme preparation
  • Mentor site engineers to maintain strong engineering control and accurate records
  • Work with commercial teams to ensure measurement and payment records are accurate and timely
  • Work with the Agent to allocate labour, plant, materials and temporary works designs
  • Flag potential commercial or contractual risks to the Agent
  • Manage material orders and supplier relationships to ensure on-time delivery
  • Manage subcontractors to ensure services are delivered effectively and in line with company policies
  • Promote company values in all dealings with colleagues, clients, subcontractors and external contacts
  • Deliver daily activity briefings and keep a regular site diary

Skills and Experience

  • Developing commercial and contractual knowledge, with evidence of practical application
  • Experience in a cost-conscious environment
  • Good people management experience
  • Experience managing subcontractors
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with clients, stakeholders and subcontractors
  • Technical civil engineering knowledge, with proven Section Engineer-level site experience across both civils and utilities projects
  • Computer literate
  • Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent (desirable)
