Smarkets runs one of the world’s most sophisticated prediction markets, handling over £29 billion in volume since 2010 and engaging 200,000+ traders globally. We’re a technology company that revolutionises betting - from sports to political markets, delivering the sharpest prices and the fairest odds. Our stack is designed for scale, reliability, and speed: Linux, Kafka, Postgres, Kubernetes, with Python 3, C++17, and React powering our platform. We build infrastructure that institutions trust while keeping trading accessible to everyone. Our edge? We’ve thrived through every market cycle, competitor, and industry revolution. At the heart of our success are our people. We create a high-performance environment where exceptional talent can thrive, blending deep business experience with a commercial mindset to drive strategic growth.
The Role: We prioritise giving exceptional value back to our customers, which means our growth strategy isn’t just about spending more—it’s about scaling creatively and efficiently. That’s why we need an amazing Data Analyst to join our team. You will be a highly curious, data-driven storyteller who acts as the bridge between raw data and business strategy. You won’t just report numbers; you will uncover the "why" behind user behaviour and empower technical and non-technical stakeholders to make better decisions.
Your Mission: Maximise business value and product understanding through rigorous analysis. You will work closely with Product, Marketing, and Engineering to create scalable data models, maintain our BI stack, and unlock insights that drive retention and growth across our B2C brands.
- Product & Business Analysis: Dive deep into user behaviour data to identify friction points in the funnel, opportunities for growth, and trends in retention.
- Data Storytelling: Translate complex datasets into clear, compelling narratives. You will communicate insights to non-technical users to influence product roadmaps, marketing campaigns, and the overall business strategy.
- BI & Visualisation: Maintain and build self-serve dashboards using Lightdash (experience with Tableau/Looker is also relevant) to democratise data access across the company.
- Product Analytics: Lead integration with a product analytics platform (Amplitude, Mixpanel etc.) to enable a 360 view of customer journeys.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data engineers to improve infrastructure and with product managers to define success metrics for new features.
About You: B2C Experience is a Must: You have a proven track record working with consumer-facing products (apps/websites) and understand B2C metrics (Churn, LTV, CAC, Retention). Highly Analytical: You are a fast learner, humble, and curious. You enjoy solving problems and digging into the data to find answers. Excellent Communicator: You are a data-driven storyteller. You can speak the language of engineers but also clearly explain findings to business stakeholders. Technical Proficiency: Strong SQL skills are essential. Experience with BI tools like Lightdash, Tableau, or Looker.
Nice to have: Background in Data Engineering. Experience with Python. Experience with dbt is a major plus (we use it for transformation).
