Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Project or Senior Hydraulic Modeller to join our established Flood Risk and Water Environment team, delivering high-profile projects across the UK for public and private sector clients.
You’ll join a friendly, collaborative group of Hydraulic Modellers, Hydrologists, Hydrogeologists, Water Resources Planners and Water Quality Scientists.
We would be keen to hire into an office with an existing modelling/hydrology team presence, including Manchester, London and Edinburgh.
However, we would be happy to consider other office locations or remote working for the right candidate.
You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of projects for both public and private sector clients, including developers, Local Flood Authorities, water companies and environmental regulators.
As a member of the team, you’ll combine technical excellence with project delivery, helping to shape and grow our hydraulic modelling capability and be able the shape the work you do.
The role includes
- Delivering hydraulic modelling and flood risk projects from inception through to completion.
- Building, interrogating and self-checking 1D and 2D hydraulic models using industry-standard software including Flood Modeller and TUFLOW.
- Preparing technical reports, model documentation and supporting calculations to a high technical standard ready for senior review and submission.
- Producing and contributing to Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) for developments and infrastructure projects primarily across England and Scotland.
- Undertaking site visits and catchment walkovers to inform hydraulic model development, flood risk assessments and project delivery.
- Liaising with clients, regulators (e. g., EA, SEPA, NRW, OPW) , Local Lead Flood Authorities and other key stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Working collaboratively with hydrologists, water environment specialists and other technical disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Supporting project planning, programme management and technical quality assurance processes.
- Contributing to the continued development and growth of our flood risk and hydraulic modelling capability.
You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Environmental and Earth Sciences, Planning, ESIA and Engineering, along with Global Advisory, on complex and impact projects that improve resilience, manage flood risk and support sustainable development.

About You
As a Hydraulic Modeller with proven consultancy or similar commercially based experience, we would envisage that:
- You hold a degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Geography, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- You are Chartered or working towards Chartership through ICE, CIWEM or a similar professional institution.
- You will be able to demonstrate: Strong experience developing, operating and interrogating hydraulic models using Flood Modeller and TUFLOW.
- Experience delivering hydraulic modelling studies to support flood risk management, planning and infrastructure projects.
- Experience preparing and self-checking technically robust reports (model build reports, model verification reports) and hydraulic modelling outputs and flood mapping deliverables.
- Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) in England and Scotland.
- Good knowledge of relevant flood risk policy, guidance and regulatory requirements, including those of the Environment Agency, SEPA and Local Lead Flood Authorities.
- Experience undertaking site visits and using site observations to inform hydraulic model development and flood risk assessments.
- Experience liaising with clients, regulators and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Experience using GIS software such as Arc GIS Pro or QGIS.
