SLR Marine Recruitment is excited to recruit for a Master for one of the most unique roles in UK maritime operations. Our client, based in the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth, is seeking an experienced and professional Master with a STCW Master II/2 or II/3 to take command of our iconic high-speed vessel service. This is a rare opportunity to lead a safety critical operation, work with a highly skilled team, and operate one of the most distinctive commercial vessels in the UK.
About the Role
You will have full command of the Company’s hovercraft, operating to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and professionalism. You will lead by example, championing safety culture, developing people, and delivering a reliable, punctual service for our customers.
Shift Pattern
- 3 days on – pm shift, long day shift, am shift followed by 2 days off
- July/Aug 4 days on – 2x pm shifts, 2x am shifts followed by 2 days off.
Key Responsibilities
- Command and navigate Company hovercraft in accordance with SOPs and legislation
- Provide strong leadership during routine operations and emergency situations
- Deliver safe, punctual, and efficient services
- Maintain expert knowledge of craft systems, emergency procedures, and local conditions
- Train, mentor, and assess crew to consistently high standards
- Lead onboard customer experience and service delivery
- Promote and enhance Safety Management (SMS) and Quality Management (QMS) systems
- Work closely with Engineering and Operations teams to ensure vessel reliability
Essential Qualifications & Experience
You must hold one of the following STCW 95 Certificates of Competence:
- Master II/2 or II/3, or
- Master II/3 (Hovercraft <500>
- Be eligible via recognised upgrade routes (Chief Mate II/2 or II/3, OOW II/1, or relevant Royal Navy qualification)
You must also hold (or be willing to obtain):
- MCA-endorsed HSC Type Rating for the Company hovercraft
- ENG1 medical certificate
- GMDSS (Restricted)
- Personal Sea Survival (PST)
- Elementary First Aid
