Marine Platers/Fabricators needed! Do you want to work in a busy and thriving shipyard where no two days are the same? Cammell Laird Shipyard in Liverpool has such a buzzing atmosphere; from friendly colleagues on site, every dock filled with ships & submarines and the opportunity to gain SC Clearance for free is a massive bonus!

Do you have shipbuilding/ship repair experience? As this is preferred - however we still want to have a conversation with you! Must be a British citizen due to clearance process. You must be able to provide a working reference, be willing to apply for a DBS and Security Clearance which the company would facilitate. Start is ASAP - Clearance will be completed on site whilst working. You will also need to complete an online induction which is a series of short videos followed by a Q&A sheet taking around 40 minutes. The role is fully subject to plate trade test.

Location: Birkenhead, Liverpool area

Rates / Hours / Duration

  • Standard: 38 hours worked Mon-Fri
  • £20.86 per hour (without holiday pay)
  • £23.38 per hour (with holiday pay)
  • OT1: (Time & half) Once standard hours complete, anything outside of these including Saturdays.
  • £31.29 per hour (without holiday pay)
  • £35.07 per hour (with holiday pay)
  • OT2: (Double time) Sundays and bank holidays
  • £41.72 per hour (with holiday pay)
  • £46.76 per hour (without holiday pay)

PAYE UMB

Digs £250 a week digs if every standard weekday is worked. Usual hours available to work are 48 - 52 hours per week Monday to Saturday plus additional during busy periods. Starting ASAP - ongoing work.

Plate Test: Platers will be given a marking off exercise and a burning exercise where they will need to be able to release a weld without damaging the parent metal.

Your experience:

  • Shipbuilding / ship repair experience is preferred
  • Heavy plate fabrication to tight tolerances
  • Ability to read complex engineering drawings and information
  • Ability to accurately mark off and layout from these drawings
  • Tack welding to a good standard
  • Familiar with plate shaping and forming
  • Experience in setting plate and section to avoid weld distortion
  • Own hand tools and marking equipment
  • Good timekeeping and absence history
