SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, working with clients to help make sustainability happen, within a collaborative, people-first culture. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Principal Metallurgist to join our established Metallurgy and Mineral Processing team, delivering high-profile metallurgical testing and advisory projects.

Based in our Truro Laboratory, the leading Mineral Processing Testing Facility in Europe, the role will focus primarily on leading complex metallurgical test programmes within a laboratory environment, with additional exposure to client advisory, innovation and strategic service development, as well as broader work spanning mining, infrastructure and industrial sectors.

The Role

You’ll lead the delivery of metallurgical testing programmes from scoping through to final reporting, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams. The role includes:

  • Project and technical leadership of complex metallurgical testwork programmes
  • Client management, technical advisory and proposal support
  • Mentoring and coaching junior metallurgists and laboratory technicians
  • Oversight of data analysis, interpretation and technical reporting
  • Desk-based technical work alongside collaboration with laboratory teams

You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Environmental and Earth Sciences and Global Advisory on complex and impactful projects, with opportunities for international exposure.

About You

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience delivering mineral processing and metallurgical testing programmes, including laboratory and pilot-scale work
  • A postgraduate degree in Minerals Engineering, Metallurgy or a related field
  • Project management and stakeholder engagement experience
  • Strong technical expertise across flotation, gravity separation, magnetic separation, leaching and comminution
  • Experience with metallurgical software and data analysis tools (desirable)
  • Strong analytical, technical reporting and problem-solving skills
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOM3) is desirable.
