SLR has an opening for a Project Manager, who will work within the Commercial and Project Management Team based in our Bolton or Stoke offices. You will be joining a team of 11 talented people, hybrid working is available following an initial settling in period. This is an exciting opportunity to work for a multidisciplinary consultancy, committed to Making Sustainability Happen, as an experienced project manager leading on the commercial and day-to-day management of a variety of interesting projects, including Wind, Solar, BESS, HS2, linear cable route and hydrogen pipeline work.

The Role

You will be involved in both the management of internal teams within SLR and the management of projects on behalf of Clients. You will lead on all aspects of the project lifecycle from tender through delivery to completion, budget management, quality management to achieve the required standards and quality in accordance with the contract and Client’s expectations. You’ll occasionally carry out site visits, to inspect quality of work and assess compliance, plus work to help secure further opportunities with clients, through the delivery of exceptional service that you will ensure is delivered.

Other duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and managing project programmes and dealing with day-to-day queries from the project team/ external contractors, ensuring they are adhering to the scope and specifications of the project;
  • Reporting on progress against programme and budget, undertaking efficient and effective management and issuing accurate, timely and compliant notices and correspondence;
  • Managing a range of projects in line with contractual and company systems;
  • Change management and ensuring that any changes are recorded and dealt with in accordance with the project and contract requirements;
  • Identification of contractual and commercial risks and opportunities at pricing stage and throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Preparation and assessment of applications for payment and the preparation of payment certificates;
  • Management of project information and documentation;
  • Preparation of monthly progress valuations and the assessment of claims and compensation events;
  • Production of monthly cost reports, forecasts, and progress reporting for Clients;
  • Ensuring that all health, safety and environmental risks are made clear to site staff and that staff follow procedures of work;
  • Supporting with Line Management responsibilities within the team.

About you

Along with demonstrable successful delivery of projects, in relevant industry sectors, you will be degree qualified and self-motivated, highly organised and able to independently manage your workload.

  • Highly conscientious and pride yourself on quality and attention to detail;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office and MS Project;
  • Ability to build respectful, trusting and productive relationships with internal and external customers along with other stakeholders;
  • Experience of managing and working with construction contractors;
  • React promptly to meet and exceed client requests, ensuring a positive and memorable experience;
  • Comfortable seeking out opportunities for work both internally to SLR and with external Clients;
  • Leads and encourages an environment of confidence and respect;
  • Demonstrable, solid experience in a similar role/s in a relevant industry;
  • Ideally hold or are working towards a relevant qualification such as APM, CEng, NECReg or similar but, if not, it is expected that you are self-motivated to obtain a relevant professional qualification;
  • A full driving licence.
