SLR is now seeking a Technical Director with extensive experience in tailings and mine waste to join our growing team in SLR’s European Region. This position will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to grow their skills and career within a successful and expanding team, working in the mining sector, both in the EU and further afield.

As a Technical Director in the mine waste team, you will manage your own projects and support others on the delivery of mine waste projects led by other in‑house technical disciplines. This role will offer you the opportunity to:

  • Work with extremely capable and experienced professionals as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver complex projects.
  • Apply your experience and knowledge to take the lead for the design of tailings and waste rock facilities, from conceptual design through to detailed design and construction.
  • Act as an Engineer of Record for tailings facilities.
  • Identify areas within Mine Waste Engineering where you can take the lead in developing new business and improving your technical skills, and in turn help to grow the size of the whole team and develop its technical capabilities.
  • Help in the recruitment and selection of key talent into the team, to attract the right people to drive the team and business success.
  • Collaborate with our Mine Waste Engineering teams in other regions to help deliver projects and develop new business globally.
  • Use your networking skills to further increase your profile in the industry, form good working relationships with our existing clients and develop new relationships with potential clients to grow the business.
  • Establish and elevate your reputation amongst a team of international professionals, with potential to become a recognized leader in the sector.
  • Contribute to industry‑recognised initiatives, including technical/professional associations, working groups and advisory panels.
  • Publish technical papers and present at high‑profile conferences, strengthening SLR’s visibility and credibility in the field.

About You: As a Technical Director you should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Extensive depth of experience and specialisation in tailings and mine waste, preferably gained in a consulting environment.
  • Honours degree qualifications in either Civil or Mining Engineering, or an MSc in a related subject.
  • Registered Chartered (or equivalent Professional Engineer status), or eligible to register immediately.
  • Good working knowledge of mining industry standards such as GISTM, ANCOLD, CDA, etc.
  • Experience of leading multi‑disciplinary teams as the lead designer and project manager on tailing and mine waste related projects, from concept to detailed design.
  • Experience of acting as the Engineer of Record and Designer of Record.
  • Experience in independent auditing and dam safety reviews.
  • Good interpersonal, presentation and report writing skills.
  • Sound commercial and business development skills.
