SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, working with clients to help make sustainability happen, within a collaborative, people-first culture. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Project Hydrogeologist to join our established Hydrogeology & Water team, delivering high-profile water environment and hydrogeological assessment projects. Based in the London or Newcastle office, the role will focus primarily on hydrogeological site investigation, water monitoring and hydrogeological assessment work, with additional exposure to groundwater abstraction licensing, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) water chapters, as well as a small amount of wider environmental and earth science work spanning minerals, waste management, renewables, property and infrastructure sectors.

The Role

  • You’ll support and lead the technical delivery of a wide range of hydrogeology projects from planning through to reporting, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • The role includes:
    • Site works (including undertaking and the organisation of) such as site walkover surveys, supervising borehole drilling, geological logging, well installation and hydrogeological testing and groundwater/surface water level and quality monitoring programmes.
    • Hydrogeological data interpretation and preparing geological and hydrogeological Conceptual Site Models.
    • Assisting with the completion of hydrogeological assessments – such as Hydrogeological Risk Assessments and Hydrogeological Impact Appraisals – that would include analysis of monitoring data, completion of hydrogeological calculations, groundwater modelling and reporting.
    • Contributing to the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) water chapters.

You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Environmental & Earth Sciences, Planning, ESIA and Engineering, along with Global Advisory, on complex and impactful projects, with opportunities for European and international exposure.

About You

  • You’ll bring:
    • One to two years of hydrogeological experience within consultancy or a similar commercial environment
    • A degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences or a related field, and membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., Geological Society)
    • Experience in water monitoring, hydrogeological site investigation, hydrogeological risk assessments, groundwater abstraction licensing and/or EIA water chapters
    • Strong data interpretation, including developing geological and hydrogeological Conceptual Site Models
    • Experience with hydrogeological calculations and groundwater modelling (desirable)
    • Strong technical reporting, communication and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
    • A full UK driving licence for site visits
