Geotechnical Engineering has always been a core part of SLR’s offering, and the busy European Geotechnical Team enjoys continued success. We are seeking an experienced Associate Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist to join our team in Sheffield or Manchester. Our workload is expanding rapidly, and we need to increase our team to meet the demands of our clients, especially in the transport infrastructure sector and the energy sector (carbon capture & storage, renewable energy, and low carbon engineering).

We are looking for someone with the drive and enthusiasm to embrace the future, supporting junior staff as they begin their careers. Responsibilities- Mentor junior staff and support their development.
- Lead and manage geotechnical design projects for large infrastructure projects.
- Provide project management, including work planning and commercial management, within the consulting and design markets.
- Apply CDM Regulations in design and ground investigation environments.
- Communicate effectively with clients and liaise confidently on design matters.
- Prepare accurate geotechnical design reports and self-check work.
- Degree in civil engineering or geology, plus a postgraduate qualification in a geotechnical subject.
- Minimum of three years of experience post-chartered status as a geologist or civil engineer.
- Ideally chartered (CEng or CGeol) or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of competence.
- Experience in leading geotechnical design projects for large infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience in the UK highways sector, including National Highways geotechnical certification projects.
- A strong academic background with a relevant degree (ideally MSc or equivalent).
- Proven experience of acting in a senior role in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment and the ability to develop and lead design teams.
- Project management – experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
- Proven geotechnical design experience.
- Competent in use of leading geotechnical design software (GEO5, Oasys suite, GeoStudio, Plaxis, etc.).
- Application of CDM Regulations in a design and ground investigation environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and confidence to liaise with clients.
- Good commercial track record in negotiating and running successful jobs.
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work (particular emphasis on preparation of Geotechnical Design Reports).
- A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas.
- A valid UK driving licence.
