SLR’s mission is to make sustainability happen. This requires technical solutions covering a wide range of areas – energy from waste, thermal process, carbon capture and hydrogen, to mention just a few. Interest in these and other technical solutions is growing, and our Process Engineering team is expanding. We are seeking an experienced engineer and project manager to support the origination, development and due diligence of Energy from Waste, thermal processing and carbon capture projects.
You’ll join an established, high‐performing team with deep expertise in the Energy from Waste (EfW) and thermal processing industries, contributing to a wide range of innovative, technically challenging and commercially impactful projects. You’ll work both independently and collaboratively, managing projects, supporting business development, mentoring colleagues and helping grow our team’s capability.
Based in the UK (location flexible), the role will focus primarily on EfW, thermal processing and carbon capture project origination, development, due diligence and technical delivery, with additional exposure to biomethane, AD, sustainable fuels, wastewater, recycling and circular economy projects across the UK and internationally.
The Role
- Originating and managing energy from waste, thermal processing and carbon capture projects across the full project lifecycle
- Preparing concept designs, feasibility studies and technical assessments
- Reviewing third‐party designs, proposals and operational models, and preparing technical due diligence reports for funders
- Preparing technical and procurement documentation, schematics and drawings, and supporting contract management during construction
- Assisting with modelling to determine plant energy and mass balances, emissions, thermodynamic calculations and basic financial metrics
- Conducting site inspections, witnessing, verification and supervision during construction, commissioning and testing
- Troubleshooting operational plant, including thermal, mechanical and biological waste and recycling operations
- Developing client relationships, attending conferences, preparing proposals and winning new work
- Supporting other SLR teams with technical and process engineering expertise across diverse sustainability‐focused projects
You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Process Engineering, Advisory, Environmental Management & Compliance, Land & Water, and Environmental Specialist Services, with opportunities to work on complex, high‐impact projects in the UK and overseas, and the role will involve travel to client sites across these regions as required.
