Due to continued growth across the team and a strong and exciting pipeline of projects, we have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ecological professional (at SLR’s Principal or Technical Director grade). Reporting to the Operations Director and working closely with the European Practice Lead for Ecology and Biodiversity, you will play a lead role in the day to day running of the North East region of Ecology professionals, with a focus on staff, projects and Health and Safety, ensuring consistency across the team, as well as collaborating with the leadership team. This position can be based from any one of our North‑East region offices including Sheffield, Leeds or Newcastle. There will be some travel to other Regions to visit offices, attend meetings and collaborate with other Regional Managers.
The role includes:
- People management including various approvals, setting objectives, undertaking appraisals, supporting staff development, growing the team through recruitment and mentoring.
- Overseeing financial performance including budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation.
- Project Resourcing including attending weekly/month meetings and providing regional updates.
- Project Leadership including actively involved in more complex, high value projects, supporting and guiding Project Managers and Project Directors with projects across their portfolio and ensuring timely project delivery.
- Regular meetings with Project Managers and Project Directors in relation to their project portfolio.
- Coordinate regional strategy, aligning local priorities with national or corporate targets.
- Representing the business at industry events, and professional networks.

- A passion for ecology, for delivering high quality work and for assisting the development of other ecological professionals.
- Substantial ecological experience, ideally within consultancy and ideally across all sectors.
- Significant project management and team/people management skills and experience.
- Relevant degree level qualification plus appropriate level of membership of CIEEM or equivalent.
- Full driving licence valid in the UK.
