SLR’s Ecology business is seeking experienced Ecologists to support a team of approximately 200 professionals across the UK and Ireland. The role offers opportunities to develop report‑writing, project management, business development and client management skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage ecological projects with a focus on renewable energy, infrastructure, residential schemes and other commercial development projects.
  • Assist team leads in resource allocation, financial budgeting, client communication and ensuring effective project delivery.
  • Produce and oversee ecological appraisals, reports, licence applications, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, EPS licences and related documents.
  • Mentor junior team members and carry out ecological surveys where required, ensuring all surveys meet required standards.
  • Support preparation of fee proposals for new business.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in ecological consultancy, including leading and mentoring others within a team.
  • Competence in ecological surveying and a good level of academic and professional qualifications in ecology or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing ecological projects to completion and reporting to the standards required by planning authorities, Natural Resources Wales and similar bodies.
  • Experience of making licence applications and holding at least one Protected Species licence; a bat licence is advantageous.
  • Experience preparing technical reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, ES Chapters and Habitat Regulations Assessments.
  • Knowledge of relevant UK and European legislation, policy and guidance.
  • Qualifying Member status or higher with the CIEEM.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle.
