About Us: Slow Train Piano Lab is a growing, modern piano teaching collective offering lessons with a fresh approach. We focus on teaching students to play by chords, by ear, developing their rhythm and music theory, using contemporary music styles, with creativity at the heart of our lessons. Our goal is to make learning piano engaging, practical, and fun for all ages by tailoring each lesson to the student’s musical tastes.

The Role: We are looking for enthusiastic piano teachers to join our team. You will deliver lessons under the Slow Train Piano Lab name, following our unique chord‑based and rhythm‑focused approach. You’ll work face‑to‑face with students from your local area (teaching from your own home or studio) or you will teach students online. You’ll maintain an open‑door safeguarding policy. You’ll be supported with training in our method, materials, and ongoing guidance.

Person Specification:

  • Confident musician with solid knowledge of chords, rhythm, and contemporary styles.
  • Confident playing by chords without notation.
  • Good understanding of music theory.
  • Experienced musician comfortable playing in contemporary bands.
  • Patient, encouraging, and able to adapt lessons to each student’s goals.
  • Organised and reliable, with a professional approach to teaching.
  • Excited to be part of a growing piano teaching network.
  • Open to following the Slow Train Piano Lab framework.

Requirements:

  • Full‑size weighted keyboard or acoustic piano.
  • Drum machine or rhythm device (or equivalent digital tools) to give students the experience of playing along with a drummer.
  • Backing track playback system (phone, computer, or digital audio setup) to give students the experience of playing along with a full band.
  • Ability to create and adapt chord charts for popular songs chosen by students.
  • Access to a computer and printer for producing lesson plans, chord sheets, and homework tasks.
  • A suitable home studio or teaching space with an open‑door policy for safeguarding.
  • A current Enhanced DBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain one before starting).
