Role Description

This is a volunteer Charity Trustee role with SLOUGH COMMUNITY TRANSPORT & SERVICES. Trustees collectively provide strategic direction, help set the charity’s vision and priorities, and ensure that activities align with its charitable objectives and community impact. Day-to-day responsibilities include attending online board meetings, reviewing reports and financial information, contributing to policy decisions, and providing oversight of risk, governance, and compliance. Trustees may support fundraising plans, stakeholder engagement, and communication with partners, funders, and service users. The role also involves acting as an ambassador for the charity, upholding its values, and constructively challenging and supporting the leadership team.

Qualifications

  • Experience or strong interest in governance, charity boards, or non-profit leadership, with the ability to understand and oversee strategic plans and policies.
  • Comfort reviewing basic financial information, budgets, and reports, with an understanding of accountability, risk management, and good stewardship of charitable funds.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, including the ability to contribute to discussions, listen actively, and work effectively as part of a diverse board.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prepare for meetings, read papers in advance, and follow through on agreed actions.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to improving access and mobility for people in the local community.
  • Comfort using digital tools for remote meetings (e.g., video conferencing, email, shared documents) and willingness to engage in online training or briefings.
  • Any experience in transport, community services, social care, fundraising, legal, HR, or marketing/communications is beneficial but not essential.
