What You’ll Be Doing

Working as part of a small Transport team, the Senior Highways Engineer will assist the Team Leader in managing the public street lighting system in Slough. The Officer will be responsible for the supervision and monitoring of street lighting schemes, including surveying, investigation, feasibility, and consultation, as required.

Main Accountabilities

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the authority in relevant working and liaison groups, engaging with stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels to ensure that street lighting meets the needs of the community and the transportation network.
  • Addressing public complaints or concerns about street lighting, lit road signs, and road safety, and collaborating with stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Assessing the impact of lit signs and street lighting on pedestrian and cyclist safety, and ensuring that all road users are considered.
  • Overseeing the maintenance, repair and new installation of off-street lighting and lit signs, including coordinating with contractors, local authorities, 3rd party suppliers and utilities.
  • Managing the processing of purchase orders and invoices related to Slough’s street lighting.
  • Managing the commissioning of the streetlighting scheme to ensure they operate as planned.
