Overview

This role is part of the Food and Safety Team, protecting the health and safety of businesses and the community.

You will deliver statutory responsibilities in food safety, health and safety, and infectious disease control, managing regulatory interventions, inspections, reports and enforcement actions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver statutory and discretionary responsibilities relating to food safety, health and safety, and infectious disease control.
  • Plan, conduct, and document regulatory interventions, assessing compliance and maintaining accurate inspection records and case notes.
  • Prepare reports and provide clear feedback to businesses.
  • Take appropriate and proportionate enforcement action where non‑compliance is identified, in accordance with legislation and Council policies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Public Health and Public Protection Directorate and manage primary authority partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Graduate, with no requirement yet to complete the CIEH Environmental Health or Food Safety Practitioner registration scheme.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work independently, with strong organisational skills and capacity to manage competing priorities and meet targets.

  • Salary: Level 6 (£36,508) or Level 7 (£47,238), inclusive of local weighting allowance and market supplement up to £4,000 (subject to award in April 2026).
