What you’ll be doing:
The Payroll and Pensions Officer is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll and pension payments for all employees, councillors, and other payees within the organisation. The role involves maintaining employee records, administering statutory deductions, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including tax, National Insurance, and pensions contributions.
You will handle routine enquiries, liaise with external agencies such as HMRC and pension providers, and assist with year-end processes and statutory reporting. Additionally, the role supports internal controls, identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and ensures adherence to data protection and audit requirements. You will play a key role in the smooth running of payroll operations, delivering high-quality service in line with organisational policies and customer care standards.

Annual increments, where applicable, are usually payable on 1st April each year, subject to six months service in the post, until the maximum spinal column point of the level has been reached. The payment of annual increments is not automatic and is subject to satisfactory performance as assessed by your Director.

  • 26 days annual leave (not including Bank holidays), rising to 30 days between 2 - 5 years’ service and 33 days after 5 years’ service.
