Slough Borough Council is seeking a dynamic individual to lead our Environmental Services department as the Head of Environmental Services. We are committed to driving forward environmental initiatives that enhance the quality of life for our residents. As the Head of Environmental Services, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our environmental front line services, aligning with our council's priorities and objectives.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and manage the Environmental Services departments, overseeing waste management, recycling programs, and natural resource protection initiatives.
  • Drive projects to promote environmental sustainability and increase recycling rates, while implementing innovative solutions to address emerging challenges.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop strategies for sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation.
  • Champion carbon neutrality and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, fostering partnerships with local communities and businesses to support environmental improvement initiatives.
  • Organise community events and campaigns to engage residents in environmental stewardship and promote key initiatives in environmental services.

What you'll have:

  • Relevant degree or management qualification in environmental science, management, or related field.
  • Experience in environmental management, preferably in a public sector environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving service improvements and cost savings.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Commitment to the vision and values of Slough Borough Council.
