This is an exciting opportunity to join Slough Borough Council's Public Health and Public Protection Directorate as a Public Health Graduate Trainee, gaining hands-on experience across a broad range of public health programmes whilst working towards your UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) Practitioner registration.

Over the 2.5-year fixed-term contract (31 months), you will contribute to the delivery of public health priorities identified in the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), develop your skills in health needs assessment, commissioning, data analysis, stakeholder engagement and project management, and work across key areas including health improvement, health protection, healthcare public health and the wider determinants of health.

Main duties of the job:
  • Support the efficient development, delivery and monitoring of public health programmes and projects across Slough Borough Council.
  • Undertake the UK Public Health Registration Practitioner Development Scheme, gaining broad experience and skills within public health, with the aim of achieving registration within 31 months of appointment.
  • Work across defined projects to ensure delivery of the Public Health Outcomes Framework and the priorities identified in the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.
  • Provide support to the Public Health Leads, Public Health Consultants on key priorities, including the wider determinants of health agenda and partnership working across the Integrated Care System and the Voluntary and Community Sector.
  • Develop and apply skills in health needs assessment, data analysis, project management and stakeholder engagement to contribute to evidence-based public health practice.
  • Contribute to secondment opportunities with neighbouring organisations and public health system partners to ensure breadth of experience supporting UKPHR registration.
