New Business Development, Client Manager
As part of Matrix Pro Sims' Defence Business Development team, you are responsible for expanding our professional wargaming and simulation footprint across global defence, government, and industry markets.
Combining commercial acumen with deep domain understanding of the defence simulation environment, you identify new opportunities, shape client engagements, and convert qualified leads into enduring partnerships.
You build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders across defence ministries, prime contractors, research organisations, and training institutions, introducing them to the operational and analytical value of Matrix Pro Sims' professional product portfolio.
Through a consultative approach, you align customer needs with our simulation solutions from Command Professional Edition to domain specific wargaming and experimentation tools.
Internally, you coordinate closely with product, technical, and client support teams to ensure a coherent customer experience from first contact through to handover.
You also represent the company at trade shows, demonstrations, and international events, helping to raise brand visibility and thought leadership within the professional defence simulation community.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across defence, government, and academic sectors.
- Build and sustain long term relationships with key stakeholders, including MOD, integrators, and OEM partners.
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting and qualification to proposal development, negotiation, and contract execution.
- Maintain detailed pipeline and account activity in CRM systems, ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop tailored proposals, technical demonstrations, and proof of concept activities.
- Represent Matrix Pro Sims at international exhibitions, industry days, and customer demonstrations in Europe (e. g.
IT2EC, DSET, DSEI) and North America (e. g.
I/ITSEC) and increasingly Asia and the Middle East.
Travel - approx. 12 trips per year.
- Contribute to marketing and communication materials, including capability briefs and case studies.
- Support strategic planning by providing market intelligence, competitor analysis, and insight into customer trends.
- Ensure all engagements uphold Matrix Pro Sims' standards of professionalism, discretion, and compliance.
- Key Skills & Attributes
- Excellent communicator and relationship builder with the ability to engage confidently at all organisational levels.
- Proven record of business development within the defence, simulation, or technology sectors.
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, balancing multiple opportunities and priorities.
- Technically literate and comfortable discussing simulation software, hardware integration, and training applications.
- Strategic thinker capable of aligning customer needs with business capability.
- Self motivated, proactive, and adaptable in fast paced, dynamic environments.
- Required Experience and Qualifications
- 5+ Years of relevant experience, but 10+ years preferred.
- Demonstrated success in generating new business and managing complex sales cycles within defence or related technical industries.
- Experience working with defence contractors, MOD, or government clients, with understanding of procurement and funding processes.
- Skilled in CRM and project management tools, ensuring disciplined pipeline tracking and client communication.
- Strong technical foundation in simulation, enabling credible discussion with technical teams.
- Familiarity with contract negotiation, pricing structures, and commercial governance.
- High level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive or classified information.
- Preferred Experience
- Defence Modelling and Simulation (M&S) or wargaming for training, education or analysis.
- Ex Military, or government agency an advantage. In the US we are particularly interested in ex USAF personnel for subject matter expertise.
- Experience of Slitherine's strategy & wargames.
