  • Purpose of the position

The position available is a Senior Stress Engineer working on the development of Advanced Composite structures carrying out a variety of mechanical analysis related tasks.

The job position reports to the department lead.

The purpose of the role requires significant technical expertise, theoretical understanding and experience to assist the company in producing innovative and functional products and systems.

The role includes interaction with the customer and suppliers, ensuring the required specification is achieved successfully.

The applicant must also be aware of the business requirements in terms of cost, timescales and manufacturability.

The role includes both independent work, leading a team of engineers and cross functional project team interaction.

  • To provide stress knowledge and expertise to the business and project teams.
  • To keep up to date with advancements within the stress and related engineering fields to ensure that the company uses the most appropriate solutions and techniques are applied.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a broad and practical application of stress analysis for composites structures with design for manufacture in mind.

Must demonstrate knowledge of Static, Dynamic, Fatigue and Damage Tolerance techniques, working knowledge of popular failure modes and composite testing techniques.

  • Taking a lead in programmes to ensure customer expectations are satisfied.
  • To coach and mentor less experienced colleagues, sharing knowledge and experience to aid development.

  • To use expertise and experience in stress engineering discipline in the designing of new projects and improvement of existing products.
  • To model stress effects on composite products and materials for a variety of markets and in a variety of mediums.
  • To be able to use Nastran, Patran, Apex, Dytran
  • To be able to write technical reports and presentations to deliver analysis results
  • To work to agreed parameters to ensure a successful outcome.
  • To identify opportunities for improvement and see through to conclusion
  • To determine own or project objectives and priorities.
  • To communicate effectively with internal and external parties to encourage an integrated and collaborative approach.
  • Work to agreed budgets, timescales and parameters.
  • Perform root cause analyses and support the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Develop a continuous improvement culture by supporting the implementation of lean techniques, review and assess new technology and develop processes that reduce cost, improve quality and increase efficiency.

Education

  • Degree level education in Engineering subject or equivalent is preferred – However, we would welcome candidate who can demonstrate a strong background in fibre-reinforced composite structures with associated mechanical analysis experience.
