We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our ambitious Technology team based at our Slimming World Head Office in Alfreton. This is a full-time hybrid role, giving you the best of both worlds - time spent developing software and collaborating face‑to‑face with your team typically in the office Monday to Wednesday, alongside the flexibility of working from home on Thursday and Friday.
You’ll be working on meaningful, feel‑good technology supporting a company that genuinely changes lives. From our public website and member platforms to our mobile app and the kits that power thousands of weekly group sessions across the UK and Ireland – your work will be felt by millions. Our app is proudly rated 4.8 stars in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, with over 320,000 reviews and millions of downloads. Our websites support huge daily traffic from members at every stage of their journey – and you’ll help keep those experiences fast, secure and delightful.
This role spans:
- our public website
- member web applications
- the Weigh & Pay kit that keeps our weekly groups running smoothly
In short: the tech you build will be in the hands of our members every single day.
About you… You’re someone who loves being part of a team, takes pride in high‑quality engineering, and is motivated by knowing your work makes a real difference. You enjoy collaborating, solving problems, and continuously improving how things are built. Most of all, you care about creating reliable, modern software that supports people on their weight‑loss journey.
Technical skills we're looking for… You don’t need to tick every box – we’re still far more interested in your potential, mindset and approach to building great software. That said, this role is best suited to someone with:
- strong hands‑on experience building mobile applications with React Native and TypeScript, ideally alongside some experience of React for web
- solid experience as a Software Engineer, with a proven track record of delivering production‑ready software and taking ownership of features from development through to release
- strong client‑side development experience using React Native and TypeScript for iOS and Android mobile applications, with some experience of React for web or closely related front‑end technologies
- experience building and maintaining mobile apps as part of a modern engineering team, with an understanding of the practical considerations of mobile development such as release cycles, performance, usability and platform differences
- familiarity with Expo or a strong interest in working with React Native Expo as part of our direction of travel
- a strong approach to quality, including writing and maintaining unit tests using modern testing frameworks
- good understanding of modern engineering practices, such as clean code, reusable components and sensible architectural patterns
- a collaborative communicator who works effectively in Agile teams and can clearly explain technical ideas while working closely with product owners, designers and stakeholders
You’ll be part of a supportive, values‑driven organisation where your ideas are welcomed, your skills are nurtured, and your work truly matters. The applications you help create will empower our members to achieve their goals, supported by technology you can be proud of.
