We are looking for a proactive and experienced Site Manager to lead operations at our waste oil processing and transfer facility. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong operational and people leadership skills who enjoys maintaining high standards, driving safe and efficient performance, and making a real impact in a hands-on environment.
Job Purpose
As Site Manager, you will lead the safe, compliant, and efficient day-to-day operation of our waste oil processing and transfer facility. You will make sure all waste handling, storage, treatment, and dispatch activities are carried out to the highest standards, while meeting regulatory and permit requirements. You will lead site colleagues, oversee plant and equipment, and help deliver smooth, safe, and commercially effective operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building strong teams, maintaining high standards, and working in line with Slicker’s values: Smart, Honest, Reliable, Together, and Fun.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the site, including the receipt, storage, processing, and dispatch of waste oils and hazardous waste.
- Manage site plant and equipment, including separators, pumps, filters, tanks, bunds, and yard vehicles, to keep operations running reliably.
- Plan and coordinate the movement of waste oil and hazardous waste loads, working closely with the transport team and customers.
- Monitor site throughput and stock levels to maintain compliance, manage capacity, and support efficient operations.
- Maintain accurate stock control, ensuring all waste streams are handled safely, clearly segregated, and fully traceable.
- Carry out sampling, interpret results, and use the findings to make informed operational decisions.
- Support the Commercial team in assessing and valuing waste streams.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with environmental permits, waste regulations, hazardous waste legislation, and duty of care requirements.
- Implement and maintain health and safety systems on site, including risk assessments, safe operating procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks to help build and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Oversee correct waste classification, sampling, and documentation, including transfer and consignment notes.
People Management
- Lead, support, and motivate all site colleagues.
- Manage staffing levels, shift planning, performance reviews, training, and the ongoing development of team capability.
- Promote a positive working environment built on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Maintenance
- Carry out scheduled inspections of the plant and wider site.
- Plan and oversee routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs for plant equipment, tanks, pumps, and site infrastructure.
- Manage contractors on site, ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with permit requirements.
- Implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and help extend asset life.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across the site, keeping areas clean, tidy, and free from spills.
Quality & Environmental Control
- Monitor product quality, contamination risks, and waste acceptance controls to maintain high operational standards.
- Ensure oil quality and process outputs are correctly sampled, tested, and recorded.
- Manage spills, leaks, and environmental incidents in line with site procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting.
Skills & Key Requirements
Qualifications / Certificates / Education:
- WAMITAB/CIWM – Essential
- NEBOSH/IOSH – Desirable
- Full UK Driving Licence – Essential
- Forklift Licence – Preferred
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A calm, decisive, and proactive approach, with a hands-on style, especially in high-pressure situations.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with good attention to detail.
- Good IT skills for reporting, documentation, and digital compliance systems.
- A strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
Experience:
- Previous experience managing waste oil, hazardous waste, recycling, chemical processing, or industrial plant operations.
- Good knowledge of environmental regulations, including waste frameworks, hazardous waste rules, and permit compliance.
- Experience operating or managing industrial equipment and plant systems used in liquid processing.
- Experience with incident reporting, safety management, and risk control.
- Management or supervisory experience within a regulated industrial environment.
- Laboratory experience would be beneficial.
Hours of work
40 hours per week - 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
