Hours: 36 hours per week (Monday – Friday)

Permanent Location: Cheltenham (office based)

Key Objectives:

Reporting to the Head of Business Systems, the Junior Business Systems Analyst will support the ongoing development, maintenance and continuous improvement of SLG’s business systems, reporting solutions and integrations. The role will provide day-to-day assistance to users, investigate system and data issues, and contribute to reporting, testing, documentation and process-improvement activities. Working with experienced colleagues, internal stakeholders and external technology partners, the Junior Business Systems Analyst will develop practical knowledge of the company's ERP environment, Power BI reporting, system integrations, automation tools and in-house applications. Through structured training, guidance and hands-on experience, the role will build strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility as capability develops. Subject to eligibility, there may also be the opportunity to study towards Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship. This will provide structured learning alongside practical experience, supporting the development of technical, analytical and business systems expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-line support for business systems enquiries and helpdesk tickets, recording, prioritising and investigating issues and escalating more complex matters appropriately.
  • Assist with routine administration, support, configuration and testing of the company's ERP system under the guidance of experienced colleagues.
  • Use SQL to perform basic data enquiries, investigate system issues and support data-quality checks, with guidance where required.
  • Maintain existing Power BI reports and datasets and assist with developing new reports and dashboards.
  • Help identify recurring problems and opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual work and introduce appropriate automation.
  • Learn and apply technologies such as Power Automate, Python, and AI-enabled solutions to improve business processes, automate routine activities and enhance reporting.
  • Monitor integrations between the ERP system and external partners, including 3PL providers, freight forwarders and sourcing companies.
  • Investigate failed messages in the XML-based DataSwitch middleware using documented procedures and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Support changes to integrations by assisting with requirements gathering, data mapping, testing, implementation and post-go-live checks.
  • Assist with software-vendor support cases, providing relevant information and maintaining clear progress records.
  • Contribute to business systems projects, including upgrades, implementations, testing, documentation and user acceptance activities.
  • Help gather and document user requirements and support the ongoing rollout and improvement of the in-house business platform and its modules.
  • Maintain clear system, process and integration documentation so knowledge is retained and support is consistent.
  • Prepare user guidance, assist with training and develop knowledge of the company's systems through structured learning and practical experience.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements:

  • A Levels, T Levels or equivalent qualifications, in Computing, Business, Mathematics or a related subject.
  • An interest in business systems, data, reporting and process improvement, with a willingness to learn new systems and technologies.
  • A basic understanding of databases and SQL, gained through study, work experience, an apprenticeship, a placement or personal projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather information methodically and ask for support when required.
  • Good Microsoft 365 skills and the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Some exposure to an ERP system or other business application would be advantageous; Syspro experience is not required.
  • Experience with Power BI or another reporting tool would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with XML, CSV, APIs, integrations, Power Automate or Python would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Experience supporting users or working with third-party software providers would be beneficial but is not required.
