SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.

SLB Cambridge Research is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England. This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building. Altogether, there are more than 930 m2; of laboratory space and offices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts.

Job Summary

We are seeking a creative self-motivated research scientist to develop models for multiphase fluid flow. The job will require experience in first-principle and numerical modelling approaches and working with experimentalists and domain experts. In this role you will work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and engage with business and engineering teams to ensure their solutions have a significant impact.

Typical Responsibilities And Duties

  • Work in modelling multiphase fluid flow (gas, liquid, and solid flow physics)
  • Work with experimentalists and domain experts to build and validate models and concepts using experimental or field data
  • Engage and collaborate with SLB technical community
  • Ability to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems, and articulate them to the technology team and management
  • Publish scientific papers, write patent applications and attend conferences

Qualifications

  • PhD in Fluid Mechanics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
  • Expertise in first-principle modelling approaches to Multiphase Flow Dynamics (Gas, Liquid, and Solid Flow physics)
  • Knowledge of multiphase flows CFD software (e.g., Ansys, OpenFoam, COMSOL)
  • Programming experience is highly desirable
  • Experience in building and validating reduced-order models from high-fidelity simulations is highly desirable
  • Relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirable
