Job Summary:
We are seeking a creative self-motivated Research Scientist to develop mathematical models for mechanical systems dynamics. The job will require the ability to derive mathematical models of complex mechanical systems. The candidate will need to work constructively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team and engage with business and engineering teams to ensure their solutions have a significant impact. They will also present their work internally and externally.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work in modelling complex mechanical systems dynamics.
  • Review and report on different modelling approaches being developed within industry.
  • Work with experimentalists to validate models and concepts and match models to experimental or field data.
  • Engage and collaborate with the SLB technical community.
  • Ability to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems and articulate them to the technology team and management.
  • Publish scientific papers, write patent applications and attend conferences.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • PhD in Applied Mathematics or similar discipline preferably with knowledge of Mechanical Engineering and related fields.
  • Core subjects: Applied Mathematics (Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Numerical Methods), Engineering Mechanics (Statics and Dynamics), Vibrations and Acoustics, System Modelling and Simulation, and Control Systems.
  • Computational skills: Proficiency in tools like MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS, SolidWorks, Abaqus, or ADAMS (optional).
  • Programming skills in Python, C++, or MATLAB for custom simulations.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: ability to derive mathematical models of mechanical systems.
  • Identifying and quantifying uncertainties within mathematical models.
  • Relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirable.
