SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.
Description & Scope: This internship will focus on the chemical modification of functional polymers using straightforward synthetic transformations. The modified polymers, along with newly synthesized/modified small molecules, will be characterized using a range of analytical techniques, including Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry. Part of the project will involve the design and synthesis of monomers for the development of polymer membranes. The work will be primarily experimental and laboratory-based, involving synthesis, characterization, data analysis, and interpretation of results.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and carrying out experimental work, ensuring that laboratory activities are in keeping within Health & Safety standards and guidelines
- Analyzing and interpreting experimental datasets
- Participating in regular meetings to discuss project progress
- Writing technical reports and presenting to peers
- Assisting with laboratory housekeeping
Qualifications:
- Studying a Bachelor’s in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Electrochemistry or a related discipline
- Oral and written communication skills in English
- Good motivation, autonomy, teamwork, and ingenuity
- Fundamental laboratory skills
- Basic data analysis (e.g., Excel)
