ROLE OVERVIEW //
We are recruiting a Senior Business Development Manager (Senior BDM) for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover to lead and support the strategy and business development plan for our
Financial Institutions Group (FIG)
. This role sits within the Global Client Development (GCD) team, part of the wider Business Development (BD) function within Business Services.
Our market-leading FIG team advises financial institutions across the full spectrum of corporate, financing, disputes, investigations and regulatory matters. Our clients include large institutional banks, challenger banks, insurers, asset managers, brokers, non-bank finance providers, payment service providers and market infrastructure participants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //
The key responsibilities of this role are set out below but there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
Sector development and business planning
- Collaborate with FIG co-heads to support the existing BD, client and marketing strategy for the FIG group and its sub-sectors within the firm.
- Support the practice/sector review process, assessing performance of the group, identifying opportunities for growth and setting future objectives.
- Build strong relationships with cross-stream partners to support the delivery of the FIG BD plan.
- Manage FIG sub-streams (e.g. large institutional banks, asset management, challenger banks, insurance), including:
- Developing and executing BD/marketing plans
- Driving agendas and supporting activity in key focus areas
- Ensuring follow-through on actions and initiatives
- Promoting best practice and cross-stream collaboration
- Enhance the market visibility and positioning of the FIG practice.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to maintain a forward-looking approach.
Client programmes, targeting and development
- Lead on the production of pitch materials, including co-ordination of input, messaging and credentials as well as collaborate with the Pitch team on strategic opportunities.
- Define and implement client targeting plans.
- Engage directly with clients from a BD and relationship management perspective.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities and drive engagement with the firm\’s Client Relationship Management Programme (CRMP).
- Provide leadership and oversight for the practice-specific CRMP process.
- Apply a relationship management approach to non-CRMP clients to support retention and growth.
Campaigns, content and marketing
- Work with the FIG partners, knowledge lawyers and senior counsel to identify and develop pertinent issues around which to focus our BD activities.
- Support the development of marketing materials across the FIG landscape.
- Relationship management for several trade and industry associations, including identifying speaking opportunities, conference sponsorship and other promotional activities.
- Support and delivery of events, in partnership with the Events team.
- Advise on content strategy and distribution channels to maximise ROI.
- Management and delivery of directory submissions for FIG.
CANDIDATE PROFILE //
Candidates for this position must have:
- Degree-educated or equivalent industry experience.
- Previous experience in the Financial Institutions sector will be advantageous and preferable.
- Strong BD and Marketing experience, most recently at a manager or senior manager level in legal or professional services.
- Ability and willingness to take the initiative and challenge the status quo.
- Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables within a tight timeframe and deliver high quality work.
- Demonstrable confidence to develop strong working relationships with the partners, associates, PSLs and all members of the BD team.
- Ability to manage and analyse large amounts of data and identify BD opportunities within it.
- Ability to be proactive, entrepreneurial and self-motivated.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, spoken and presentational).
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Proactive approach to defining needs and delivering solutions.
- Ability to build strong business relationships with internal and external clients and the resilience to deal with demanding individuals.
