Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW //

We are recruiting for an experienced Resource Manager to join our Disputes and Investigations group.

In collaboration with partners, the Resource Manager will play a key role in informing and influencing the day-to-day management of work distribution, ensuring the timely and efficient allocation of lawyers across the practice group. The focus is on optimising the utilisation of our lawyers, considering their experience, capacity, development objectives, preferences and client requirements.

The Practice consists of 16 partners and over 113 associates and senior counsel. The work involves High Court matters, regulatory and prosecutorial investigations, domestic and international arbitrations, formal inquiries and cross-border disputes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //

The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.

  • Maintain and implement resource management strategies to ensure the timely and efficient allocation of lawyers across the practice.
  • Develop strong working and trusted relationships with our partners and associates to foster collaboration and gain an understanding of both practice and individual resourcing needs.
  • Proactively identify risks associated with resource shortages or imbalances and develop mitigation strategies to address those challenges.
  • Provide clear and regular utilisation and projected capacity reports and your analysis of them.
  • Anticipate and resolve resource allocation conflicts, balancing competing priorities and ensuring efficient management.
  • Continuously assess and refine workflows, recommending strategies to optimise resource utilisation and improve efficiency.
  • Work closely with HR Partners and the HR Manager to help deliver on our lawyer’s career progression goals.

CANDIDATE PROFILE //

To be successful in this role, you must have experience in Resource Management / Staffing or Workforce Allocation. Ideally, this experience will be within the legal or professional services sector. In addition, we are looking for:

  • An accomplished self-starter with a proven track record of managing resources in a complex, multi-project environment.
  • Outstanding organisation skills, with a focus on maintaining accuracy and efficiency while managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build relationships quickly and adapt communication styles to establish credibility with diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical abilities, capable of evaluating utilisation data and making informed, data-driven decisions while considering lawyer preferences.
  • Quick to absorb, comprehend and share new information, adapting swiftly to evolving practice needs and shifting priorities.
  • The ability to shape, communicate and advocate for best practice standards, influencing others to gain their buy-in or support.
  • A confident, professional communication style, with excellent written and oral skills, demonstrating diplomacy and tact.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems.
