We are recruiting for a Manager to join our Research and Insight team, which sits within the Business Development team and is a part of the wider Commercial function.
The Research and Insight team is responsible for providing client and market intelligence to partners and staff across all practice areas, as well providing research and analysis that supports the strategic priorities of the firm. The role holder will work with colleagues to deliver insight and analysis that informs our thinking, helps to shape our strategy and supports some of our market-facing initiatives. In addition, the role holder will help to identify opportunities to engage with our existing clients and prospects and will be able to spot trends and developments in our key markets. The opportunities identified through this analysis will typically be delivered as research reports or as presentations. In addition to working with fee earners, this role will provide an opportunity to engage with people from across the Commercial function, including our Global Client Development, Marketing, Communications, Pricing and Events teams.
We are looking for candidates who take an analytical approach to their work and have a strong interest in deals, markets, and sector analysis. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with large datasets and able to extract meaningful insights from them, with experience in writing clear, well-structured research reports. Prior experience in a research function is required (3 to 5 years), along with familiarity with platforms such as S&P Capital IQ, Mergermarket, Bloomberg, and PitchBook.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //
The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
Research
• Support client targeting activities with valuable company/sector research.
• Provide actionable insights to key stakeholders in the form of reports and presentations.
• Use a range of sources to provide trends, insights and analysis that inform our thinking.
Insight
• Analyse trends in certain sectors or practice areas to produce quarterly summary reports.
• Support our market-facing publications, including our flagship Horizon Scanning series, with data and insights.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Commercial, providing analytical support for a range of initiatives, including ROI data analysis and visualisation that articulate the value and achievements of the function.
• Support the department head with data and analysis that helps to inform our strategy, as might be used by the Board and Senior Leaders from across the firm.
Client issues
• Share ideas and opportunities with colleagues on an ad-hoc basis and at our regular meetings.
• Produce short, pathfinder documents that help to articulate opportunities that recent market developments present to the firm, ahead of more in-depth research if it is required.
Developing the function
• Evaluate new research platforms and products that can add value to the firm.
• Play an active role in finding new ways of delivering research, and improving the output of the function, though the adoption of new practices, new platforms of delivery and new technologies including AI.
CANDIDATE PROFILE //
Candidates for this position must have:
• A background in a research function, preferably in professional services
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong report writing and presentation skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Numerical and statistical fluency
• The ability to synthesise and summarise information and data to deliver insights
• Good data management and data manipulations skills
• Strong PowerPoint and Excel Skills
• An interest in, or experience using, AI as part of the research process.
• Experience in using, or an interest in learning to use, PowerBI or SharePoint
• Experience in creating, or an interest in learning to build, research dashboards that provide actionable insights
• The ability to build and develop relationships at all levels of the organisation
