We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a professional, technically strong and engaging individual to join us as a Data Privacy Associate in our London-based Tech, Digital, Data and IP group. In addition to its highly regarded Data and Digital practice, the firm has extensive Tech, IP, Corporate, Financial Institutions, Commercial and Financing practices. It also has strong practices in Financial Regulation, Tax, Competition, Real Estate, Dispute and Investigations and Pensions, Employment and Incentives. Group structure of our data privacy practice Our Data Privacy practice sits within our wider Tech, Digital, Data and IP practice. The data privacy practice is led by 1 of the group partners, Rebecca Cousin. The wider group currently has 26 associates and 5 trainees, with 3 of the associates dedicated to the Data Privacy practice and further associates within the group undertaking data privacy work as part of a broader mixture of work. As well as being a highly-regarded and important specialist practice, the data privacy practice is a critical component of the firmwide Technology practice, which brings together talent and leadership from practice areas across the whole firm to focus on winning work and supporting clients in the burgeoning technology and digital sectors. The Data Privacy practice is supported by two dedicated knowledge lawyers who work within a wider team of 5 knowledge lawyers within the Tech, Digital, Data and IP practice. As data is increasingly seen as a valuable yet vulnerable asset, our Data Privacy practice delivers strategic, pragmatic and commercial advice that supports the management of data risk against a fast-moving regulatory backdrop. We support our clients on all aspects of data privacy risks across the world, including data governance, monetisation strategies, implications of AI and the design of new digital products and services. This includes more contentious work, including complex DSARs, data breaches, regulatory enforcement and privacy based claims, as well as where data privacy is used as a tool in wider commercial, employment or regulatory disputes and investigations. We are at the forefront of legal developments in the UK, Europe and beyond through our network of industry experts, regulator contacts and relationship firms around the world. Advising on data sharing, data analytics, data privacy aspects of AI, marketing and general GDPR advisory matters. Advising on data privacy aspects of a wide range of global transactions including public and private M&A, pension de-risking, insurance transfers, joint ventures and long-term commercial contracts. Working on contentious data and cyber matters, including cross border data breaches, regulatory investigations, data claims and complex data subject access requests. Contributing to business development initiatives and raising the profile of the firm’s Data Privacy practice, such as through writing articles for journals and clients and posts for our Lens blog . Given the nature of our work, you may be required to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday. An interest in and some pre-existing knowledge of UK Data Privacy law. ~ Strong academic background. ~
