Role Overview

We are recruiting a Paralegal to join our Pensions, Employment and Incentives Group on a 6-month fixed term contract.

Our PEI Group is made up of 5 Partners, 3 Knowledge Lawyers and around 30 Senior Counsel and Associates.

PEI is one of our specialist groups, with other such groups including Tax, Competition, Financial Regulation, Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property and Real Estate.

We have extensive Corporate, Commercial and Financing practices, and carry out a range of transactional and advisory mandates for clients in all these areas.

This role will directly support Partners, Senior Counsel and Associates in the Pensions, Employment and Incentives Group with their client work, as well as the Group’s Knowledge Team in with a wide range of know-how tasks.

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed.

You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.

  • Billing and invoicing to clients.
  • Providing administrative support on client matters, including co-ordinating the signing of deeds and organising documentation.
  • Sitting in on client calls and taking minutes.
  • Maintaining and running client action lists.
  • Proofing, reviewing and editing documents for client matters and pitches.
  • Day-to-day support for fee-earners including ad-hoc projects and research tasks.
  • Researching and reporting on legal issues.
  • Candidate profile

Candidates for this position must have

  • Strong academic qualifications (ideally a minimum 2:1 degree from a top university, although extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis, where relevant), including a degree or post-graduate diploma in law.
  • A secured training contract is preferred, but not essential.
  • Experience in a corporate law firm strongly preferred, along with a strong interest in Pensions, Employment and Incentives.
  • Advanced written and spoken communication skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, even under pressure.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to pick up new legal concepts and terminology quickly.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Excellent eye for detail.
  • Good team player.
  • Comfortable with basic maths and data entry.
  • Confidence to use the firm’s approved generative AI tools.
  • Good IT skills and an ability to learn new IT systems quickly.
  • A basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the use of a document management system (e. g. i Manage) would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Experience of working in a diverse team whilst fostering an inclusive team culture.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity while displaying the highest standard of professional.
