The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity has now arisen in our Court of Protection department, which is recognised by the independently researched Legal 500 as tier 3 firm in Manchester, is looking to expand and is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic COP Paralegal, to join the team. You will be based in our Court of Protection department, focusing on the safeguarding and support of vulnerable people. The team offers advice on various Court of Protection issues, with a particular emphasis on protecting and supporting vulnerable individuals. They assist their clients in managing their property and financial affairs. The team deals with a substantial number of clients who have been appointed as deputies, providing help to individuals with acquired brain injuries, Dementia/Alzheimer’s and other serious injuries in handling their financial matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role will see you responsible for providing cost effective administrative support to the partner and other senior fee-earners in the team in the work of the department.
  • In addition you will undertake certain elements of fee-earning work under supervision but not as a designated matter handler.
  • Providing paralegal support to the Court of Protection Team.
  • Supporting existing Paralegal with client unoccupied property inspections.
  • Attending on client property clearances, lock changes.
  • Liaising with estate agents and other professionals.
  • Preparing detailed and accurate file notes.
  • General admin support.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Paralegal who has previously carried a case load or equivalent legal experience.
  • Strong interest in mental capacity law and vulnerable client work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of empathy and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal case management systems.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in Court of Protection or Private Client work.
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals or in a care setting.
