Join to apply for the Education Lawyer role at Slater and Gordon Lawyers (UK). We are recruiting a talented Lawyer to join our Education team. Applicants may be based in Manchester, Liverpool or Birmingham and will assist on and run their own education cases, helping to secure provision, placements and therapies for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a timely and professional service to clients.
  • Meet with clients to establish suitability for the firm’s advice and services based on specialism and likely cost.
  • Take client instructions and ensure they are implemented appropriately.
  • Monitor clients’ costs against estimated costs and update clients as necessary.
  • Advise clients on the law and legal issues relating to their case in person, by telephone, email, or virtual meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each matter in the firm’s case management software.
  • Record and adhere to all deadlines.
  • Draft necessary legal documents tailored to the client’s needs.
  • Negotiate with clients and other professionals to secure agreed objectives.
  • Research and analyse documents and case law to ensure accurate advice and procedure.
  • Correspond with clients and opposing solicitors/Responsible Bodies; attend meetings with clients and opposing parties.
  • Instruct barristers or specialist advocates to appear in tribunal; advise on instructions of independent experts as required.
  • Delegate work to trainee solicitors and paralegals with clear instructions and support.
  • Develop own caseload and work with existing referral sources; attend marketing events to provide free legal advice and promote the firm’s services.
  • Contribute to social media, articles, presentations and work with charities as required.

What We Are Looking For

  • A sharp and analytical mind; diligent and methodical with excellent time management.
  • Excellent team working, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for or interest in special educational needs and disability law.
  • Commercial awareness and negotiating skills; ability to use initiative and adapt to new ideas.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage urgent deadlines and stay calm under pressure.
  • Experience in education/public law or transferable skills from a complementary area.

What We Offer

  • Hybrid working – 2 days per week in the office (reasonable commuting distance).
  • 35 hours per week – Monday to Friday.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays; buy and sell annual leave up to 5 days.
