About Cloudsmith: Cloudsmith is building the operating system for the modern software supply chain. We run a global, fully managed, multi-tenant SaaS platform that helps organizations, from startups to the Fortune 500, secure, govern, and distribute software artifacts at scale. Worldwide, our customers use Cloudsmith as a critical infrastructure control plane for CI/CD, developer workflows, security controls, compliance, and software distribution, supporting 30+ formats and ecosystems across languages, containers, and operating systems.

The Role: Are you passionate about building high-quality software? Are you looking for a challenge that will broaden your learning, working with a wide and growing variety of technologies? Do you thrive in fast-paced, fast-growing environments? If so, there’s a great opportunity waiting for you as a Software Engineer here at Cloudsmith!

The engineering organization is made up of multiple tribes responsible for building application capabilities that deliver value to our customers and the underlying platform on which Cloudsmith is founded. We operate in a highly collaborative environment where people with different skills come together to make things happen. This position is in the Artifact Engine team (aka Bytebusters), who are focused on the core of what Cloudsmith is known for - everything to do with package formats, upstreams, provenance, signatures and verification, and security scanning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the design and delivery of complex features and APIs end-to-end, from technical design through to production and operational support.
  • Help keep our systems fast, reliable, and running smoothly at global scale.
  • Work closely with teammates from product, design, and customer success to solve problems together.
  • Put quality, reliability, performance and security first through testing, monitoring, and good engineering habits.
  • Share your knowledge — whether that’s through code reviews, docs, or mentoring others.

Required Experience, Qualities & Skills:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in building, testing, deploying, debugging, and maintaining complex systems in production environments; or equivalent experience in open-source ecosystems and projects.
  • A track record of owning significant technical projects end-to-end, from design/RFC through delivery and operating the result in production.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python (Django), Golang, Rust, or similar, with the depth to make sound design decisions.
  • Familiarity with UNIX-like systems (Linux/WSL/MacOS).
  • Familiarity with container runtimes and orchestration.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure, data structures & algorithms, storage systems, source control, and continuous integration.
  • Eagerness to continuously learn the latest technologies and expand your technical capabilities; not afraid to admit what you don't know.
  • You understand the importance of shipping early and often and delivering iteratively.
  • You've thrived in a fully remote asynchronous environment.
  • An enthusiastic and effective communicator (using English): you should be able to appeal to and communicate with both technical and non-technical listeners alike.
  • Deeply passionate about your craft: we deeply care that you care.

Benefits, Location & Work Environment:

  • A position based in Ireland or the United Kingdom.
  • A competitive compensation package, including equity.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Generous annual leave and flexible working policies to suit your lifestyle.
  • A professional development budget for conferences and training.
  • A dynamic, innovative, trust-centric, and supportive work environment.
  • Opportunity to shape a fast-growing Series B startup (and beyond).
  • Regular travel may be required for team meetings and events.

Health and Wellness: Regardless of your location, we deeply care about the health and wellness of our staff and their families; a sustainable pace is important to us. In addition to generous annual leave (PTO), we offer health and wellbeing benefits along with flexible family-friendly working policies.

Personal Growth: You will have an enormous opportunity to learn new skills alongside your colleagues, and your continued professional development is essential to us because it's important to you. We will support you with budgets for equipment, training, books, conferences, travel, and certifications.

Facilities: Cloudsmith is headquartered in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with fully-equipped office space that’s open 24x7. We use our H.Q. regularly for activities like working sessions, team planning, meets and greets, and sometimes other group activities.

About Equal Opportunity: Cloudsmith is an equal-opportunity employer proud to nurture a diverse workplace that welcomes applications from individuals of all races, genders, and ethnic groups. We do not discriminate on age, religion, sexual orientation, citizenship status, military service, or health conditions.

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned.
